The artwork was created by C. & A. Richards in Boston, Massachusetts in the 1930’s (see tag on reverse). The series is called "A Series of Famous Clipper Ship in Color and in Silhouette." The specific artwork shown is "PIAKO," a hand-colored passenger clipper ship done in the reverse painted glass technique giving it a bit of a 3D effect. The clipper ship AND water are painted on the inside of the glass. A print with clouds was added later and can be replaced with any desired “sky background.” Someone taped the black interior backing down to the reverse of the frame. Still, this lovely piece of early 20th century painted glass art is in good condition. There is some minor paint loss to a couple of sails, but the rest is nice. It measures 15.5x12” in the frame.
